סימן מ סעיף יב

מִי שֶׁיָּדָיו צְבוּעוֹת, אִם אֵין שָׁם מַמָּשׁוּת הַצֶּבַע כִּי אִם חֲזוּתָא בְּעָלְמָא, לֹא הֲוֵי חֲצִיצָה. אֲבָל אִם יֵשׁ עֲלֵיהֶם מַמָּשׁוּת הַצֶּבַע, אֲפִלּוּ רַק מְעַט, הֲוֵי חֲצִיצָה. אַךְ אִם הוּא אֻמָּן בְּכָךְ, דְּהַיְנוּ שֶׁהוּא צַבָּע, וְכֵן מִי שֶׁהוּא טַבָּח וְיָדָיו מְלֻכְלָכוֹת מִדָּם, אוֹ שֶׁהוּא סוֹפֵר וְאֶצְבְּעוֹתָיו מְלֻכְלָכוֹת מִדְּיוֹ, וְהוּא רָגִיל בְּכָךְ, וְכֹל בַּעֲלֵי אֻמָּנוּת זֹאת אֵין מַקְפִּידִין בְּכָךְ, לֹא הֲוֵי חֲצִיצָה, אֶלָּא אִם כֵּן הוּא בְּרֹב הַיָּד. וְכֵן מִי שֶׁיֵּשׁ לוֹ מַכָּה עַל יָדוֹ וְעָלֶיהָ רְטִיָּה שֶׁמִּצְטַעֵר לְהָסִירָהּ, לֹא הֲוֵי חֲצִיצָה (וְעַיֵּן עוֹד בְּסִימָן קס"א דִּינֵי חֲצִיצָה בִּטְבִילַת נָשִׁים, וְהוּא הַדִּין לִנְטִילַת יָדָיִם) (קסא).

If your hands are colored with dye, but there is no substance to it, merely the coloring, this does not constitute a chatzitzah; but if even a little tangible dye-stuff is on your hands it is considered a chatzitzah. However, if you are a craftsman such as a painter, or if you are a butcher, and your hands are stained with blood, or you are a scribe, and your hands are stained with ink, and this is their usual appearance and other members of this craft are not concerned with these stains, they are not considered a chatzitzah, unless the stains cover the greater part of the hand. Similarly, if you have a wound on your hand, and there is a bandage covering it, and it is painful to remove it, the bandage is not considered a chatzitzah.
