סימן מו סעיף מה

הַרְבֵּה אַזְהָרוֹת הִזְהִירָה הַתּוֹרָה בִּשְׁרָצִים, וְעוֹבְרִין עֲלֵיהֶן בְּכַמָּה לָאוִין, וּמְטַמְּאִין אֶת הַנֶּפֶשׁ כְּדִכְתִיב וְנִטְמֵתֶם בָּם. וְלָכֵן צָרִיךְ הָאָדָם לִזָּהֵר בִּמְאֹד מְאֹד שֶׁלֹּא יִכָּשֵׁל בָּהֶם.

Many Divine commandments are written in the Torah regarding insects. [One who eats them] transgresses many prohibitive commandments. They also defile the soul, as it is written: "You will be defiled through them."¹¹Leviticus 11: 43. Therefore, everyone must be very careful not to eat them inadvertently.
