סימן קסח סעיף ד

אָסוּר לְהִסְתַּכֵּל בְּצוּרַת אָדָם, שֶׁהֲרֵי נִקְרָא פֶסֶל, וְעוֹבֵר מִשּׁוּם, אַל תִּפְנוּ אֶל הָאֱלִילִים. אֲבָל בְּצוּרוֹת שֶׁעַל הַמַּטְבְּעוֹת, כֵּיוָן שֶׁרְגִילִין בָּהֶן, מֻתָּר. וְהֶחָסִיד נִזְהָר גַּם בָּזֶה

It is forbidden to gaze at the image of a person, for it is called a pessel (idol), and this is in violation of the Scripture, "Do not turn to idols." However, with regard to the images on coins, since everyone is accustomed to them, it is permitted. A very pious person is even careful about this.⁸See Tosafos Avodah Zara 50a.

תנא דבי אליהו כל השונה הלכות בכל יום מובטח לו שהוא בן העולם הבא שנאמר הליכות עולם לו אל תקרי הליכות אלא הלכות (נדה ע"ג.)
