סימן רו סעיף ג

הַשּׁוֹמֵעַ שְׁמוּעָה רְחוֹקָה, אֵינוֹ צָרִיךְ לִנְהוֹג כָּל דִּין אֲבֵלוּת, אֶלָּא דַּיּוֹ בַּחֲלִיצַת מִנְעָל לְבָד, וּמֻתָּר בִּמְלָאכָה וּרְחִיצָה וְסִיכָה וְתַשְׁמִישׁ הַמִּטָה וְתַלְמוּד תּוֹרָה. וְאִם אֵין מִנְעָלִים בְּרַגְלָיו בִּשְׁעַת שְׁמוּעָה, צָרִיךְ לַעֲשׂוֹת מַעֲשֶׂה אַחֵר שֶׁיְהֵא נִכָּר שֶׁהוּא עוֹשֶׂה מִשּׁוּם אֲבֵלוּת, כְּגוֹן שֶׁיֵשֵׁב עַל הַקַרְקַע שָׁעָה אֶחָת.

One who receives delayed news need not observe all the laws of mourning, and removal of his shoes is sufficient. He is permitted to work, bathe, anoint himself, to have marital relations and to study Torah. If he was not wearing shoes when he received the news, he must do something else to indicate that he is doing so to observe mourning such as sitting on the ground for an hour.
