סימן עה סעיף י

נוֹהֲגִין שֶׁאֲפִלּוּ כַּמָּה נָשִׁים, מַדְלִיקִין נֵרוֹת בְּבַיִת אֶחָד וְכָל אַחַת מְבָרֶכֶת עַל נֵרוֹת שֶׁלָּהּ, כִּי כַּמָּה שֶׁנִּתּוֹסַף אוֹרָה, יֵשׁ בָּה שִׂמְחָה יְתֵרָה. וְאַךְ יֵשׁ לִזָּהֵר שֶׁלֹּא תַּדְלִיקֶנָה שְׁתַּיִם בִּמְנוֹרָה אֶחָת. וּבִשְׁעַת הַדְּחַק מְקִלִּין גַּם בָּזֶה.

It is a custom that even if many women light candles in one house, each one says the berachah on her (own) candles,²⁶Shulchan Aruch 263: 8. because the more light, the more joy. However, care should be taken that two (women) should not light in one candelabra, but in times of pressing need we may be lenient even in this regard.²⁷Magein Avraham. Peri Megadim relies on this ruling for the benefit of poor women who cannot afford their own candelabra.
