אֵין לִתֵּן כַּרְכֹּם לְתוֹךְ הַתַּבְשִׁיל מִפְּנֵי שֶׁצּוֹבְעוֹ, (כָּךְ כָּתוּב בְּסֵפֶר חַיֵּי אָדָם).

You may not put saffron into your (cooked) food because it colors [dyes] it. (And so it is written in the sefer Chayei Adam [24: 5] ¹⁵⁰The Shulchan Aruch, however, and most poskim, say that there is no prohibition against coloring food on Shabbos. However, you may not color water for decorative purposes [Peri Megadim, Mishnah Berurah (320: 56)]..)
