סימן פז סעיף כג

מַכָּה בִּתְחִלָּתָהּ שֶׁיֵּשׁ לְהַבְּהֵמָה צַעַר מִמֶּנָּהּ, סָכִין אוֹתָה בְּשֶׁמֶן. אֲבָל בַּסּוֹף, שֶׁאֵין הַסִּיכָה אֶלָּא מִשּׁוּם תַּעֲנוּג, אָסוּר.

You may apply oil on a fresh wound which is causing the animal pain, but it is forbidden to apply oil on a wound that is healing and is only done for the animal's comfort.⁴⁶It is considered an unnecessary and bothersome activity. [Shulchan Aruch 332: 2]
