סימן ק סעיף טז

כְּשֶׁמַּחְזִירִין הַכֹּהֲנִים אֶת פְּנֵיהֶם, בֵּין בַּתְּחִלָּה בֵּין בַּסּוֹף, לֹא יַחְזִירוּ אֶלָּא דֶּרֶךְ יָמִין. לָכֵן בַּתְּחִלָּה כְּשֶׁעוֹמְדִים וּפְנֵיהֶם לַמִּזְרָח, יִפְנוּ לַדָּרוֹם וְאַחַר כָּךְ לַמַּעֲרָב. וְאַחַר הַדּוּכָן כְּשֶׁהוֹפְכִין פְּנֵיהֶם לַמִּזְרָח, פּוֹנִים דֶּרֶךְ צָפוֹן. וּכְשֶׁהֵם יוֹרְדִין מִן הַדּוּכָן, יִהְיֶה פְּנֵיהֶם קְצָת לְנֶגֶד אֲרוֹן הַקֹּדֶשׁ, וְיִפְסְעוּ לְאַחֲרֵיהֶם כְּתַלְמִיד הַנִּפְטָר מִלִּפְנֵי רַבּוֹ. כְּשֶׁנּוֹעֲלִין הַמִּנְעָלִים, לֹא יִגְּעוּ בָּהֶם. וְאִם נָגְעוּ, צְרִיכִין לִטּוֹל יְדֵיהֶם.

Whenever the kohanim turn around, either at the beginning or at the end of (the Birkas Kohanim), they must always turn towards the right. Therefore, at the beginning, when they are standing facing to the East, they should first turn South and then West. After concluding Birkas Kohanim, when they turn to face East, they should do so by first turning North. When going down from the duchan, their faces should be somewhat towards the Holy Ark, and they should walk backwards, like a pupil taking leave of his master. When putting on their shoes, they should not touch them. If they did touch them, they must wash their hands.⁴⁸In order to continue their tefillah. (Ramah 128:17)
