סימן קכה סעיף ו

מִשֶּׁתֶּחְשַׁךְ, כְּשֶׁהוּא רוֹאֶה אֶת הַנֵּר, מְבָרֵךְ בּוֹרֵא מְאוֹרֵי הָאֵשׁ. וּבִשְׁמֹנֶה עֶשְׂרֵה, אוֹמְרִים אַתָּה חוֹנַנְתָּנוּ. אֲבָל אֵין מַבְדִּילִין עַל הַכּוֹס עַד מוֹצָאֵי תִּשְׁעָה בְּאָב, וְאָז הוּא מַבְדִּיל עַל הַכּוֹס. אֲבָל אֵינוֹ מְבָרֵךְ לֹא עַל הַבְּשָׂמִים וְלֹא עַל הַנֵּר, אֲפִלוּ לֹא בֵרַךְ עָלָיו בְּמוֹצָאֵי שַׁבָּת. וְיַזְהִיר לִבְנֵי בֵיתוֹ שֶׁלֹּא יַעֲשׂוּ מְלָאכָה עַד שֶׁיֹּאמְרוּ הַמַּבְדִּיל בֵּין קֹדֶשׁ לְחֹל בְּלֹא שֵׁם וּמַלְכוּת. וְאִם שָׁכַח לוֹמַר אַתָּה חוֹנַנְתָּנוּ, אֵין צָרִיךְ לַחֲזוֹר אֶלָּא גּוֹמֵר תְּפִלָּתוֹ (כְּמוֹ שֶכָּתַבְנוּ לְעֵיל סִימָן צו) שֶׁהֲרֵי יַבְדִּיל בְּמוֹצָאֵי תִּשְׁעָה בְּאָב עַל הַכּוֹס, וְלֹא יִטְעֹם קֹדֶם. וְאִם צָרִיךְ לַעֲשׂוֹת מְלָאכָה, יֹאמַר תְּחִלָּה הַמַּבְדִּיל בֵּין קֹדֶשׁ וְכוּ' בְּלֹא שֵׁם וּמַלְכוּת.

At dark, when you see the candlelight, you should say the berachah Borei me'orei ha'eish⁷This should be done, preferably before the reading of Eichah. (Ibid. 556:1) [Who creates the lights of fire], and in the Shemoneh esrei we say: Ata chonantanu [You have favored us.] We do not say Havdalah over the cup of wine until the conclusion of Tishah beAv.⁸You, yourself, are permitted to drink the wine, and you need not give it to a child. (Ibid. 556:3) The introductory sentences beginnng with הִנֵה קֵל should not be said. But you should not say the berachah over the spices and over the light, even if you failed to say (the berachah over the light) on Shabbos night. You should caution your family not to do do any work before they say Hamavdil bein kodesh lechol [Who separates between the holy and the secular] without mentioning Hashem's Name and Kingship. If you forget to say Ata chonantanu, you need not repeat [the Shemoneh esrei], but you should finish the Shemoneh esrei, (as stated in Chapter 96, above), because you will say Havdalah over wine at the end of Tishah beAv. You should not taste any food before Havdalah, and if you find it necessary to do some work, you should first say: Hamavdil bein kodesh etc., without mentioning Hashem's Name and Kingship.
